Essure And Side Effects
For those not wanting children Essure seems like a dream come true. Two little metal tubes that get inserted into your fallopian tubes. No operation… can be done in the doctor’s office and boom after three months it is all set. This is because after three months there is scar tissue all around the Essure coils and no sperm can get by.
What are the side effects of Essure? Are there any that we know of? And how bad are they?
Here is a list of complaints that women have written about as well as those listed in the pamphlet for Essure placement.
Pain during insertion- Can be mild to moderate. Many women compare this to bad period cramps. Yes, there is usually a mild anesthetic used. What happens in some cases is that one of the fallopian tubes will spasm and one of the coils cannot be inserted and the procedure will need to be repeated for the side with the spasm at a later date.
The next symptoms usually come right after the insertion process.
-
- Nausea
- Dizzy
- Bleeding
- Cramping
- Bloating
- Shortness of breath
- Pressure on bladder
What has not been discussed on medical websites but is being written about by Essure patients is the same symptoms that women with tubal ligation procedures experience. It is a condition called “Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome”. Though many in the medical community are not acknowledging this it is a very real condition that is affecting many women.
Finally, is Essure reversible? Yes it is, but only by very experienced surgeons such as Dr. Gary Berger and Dr. Charles Monteith of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. In the next posting I will discuss how this Essure Reversal is performed.
Its very sad that the Doctors that perform the Essure procedure refuse to believe that problems do happen after the coils are placed correctly. Thank God for Dr. Berger and Dr.Monteith!
Hi 11Needles,
As Essure becomes more and more popular I would not be surprised to see more issues and problems coming to surface. I just recently read an article where the coils are slipping out of the fallopian tubes and becoming “lost”. I have also heard reports of the coils causing tears. Only time will tell but we are lucky to have the best surgeons available for those who need/want them removed.
